It was only when her beloved sons crying and trying to get her up, and only then, she realized they were there with her all the time.
“Oh, my poor sons. You never cry before your father. Don’t cry now, okay?” She managed to sit up, smiling bitterly.
There the three of them clung together in a knot.
Chapter 3
On the side of the bed near the doorway, Mei wanted five more minutes of rare luxury - staying in bed with the boys and seeing nothing. Their simple existence fi lled her. When facing a hole that had been cut to let some light in, her eyes hurt a little. A ray of sunshine was too bright. She had to blink frequently till the light became acceptable. Then suddenly, she pushed her way out through the blanket to keep a quiet Saturday morning in that particular room, where the sweet darkness cut out the world.
